Professor Graham Davis of the Colorado School of Mines Division of Economics and Business and Professor James Smith of Southern Methodist University have been contracted by the Inter-American Development Bank to assist them with their efforts to improve natural resource knowledge generation and governance in Latin America and the Caribbean. The initiative is being funded by a $15 million grant to the IDB from the Canadian Government, Canadian resource companies having a large presence in the region. Professors Davis and Smith are examining the impacts of resource taxes on mine and energy operator investment and performance. They will also estimate how the various tax regimes in place affect the flow of rents to the host nation governments.
