Office of the President

Welcome to Colorado School of Mines, the first public institution of higher learning to open its doors in Colorado. Founded in 1874 to answer the Colorado mining industry's need for new mining methods, this institution has evolved and expanded through the years to address the contemporary needs of a complex world community.

Mines is now a dynamic center of research and a respected leader in engineering education and applied science related to Earth, Energy, Materials and Environment. The knowledge and skills that Mines contributes to society have never been more needed than they are today.

Visitors to this website can read about our undergraduate and graduate students, among the best and brightest in the world, and about our outstanding faculty and accomplished alumni. They can also read about our exciting research programs, in a breadth of subject areas, and about our extensive educational outreach, from K-12 programs to continuing education for industry professionals. It's clear that our special, focused approach to learning leads to effective problem-solving collaborations and creative new thinking.

Still, the best way to experience the vibrant learning environment of Mines is to visit our campus. See firsthand our state-of-the-art facilities situated in the beautiful foothills of Colorado . Visit a classroom or research laboratory. Attend a lecture. Cheer at a basketball game. Tour the Geology Museum . And everywhere you go, talk with the many talented people who make this such an exceptional institution. Welcome to Mines!
