Proposals

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) assists researchers in finalizing a complete proposal package by reading any agency guidelines, filling out applicable forms, preparing the CSM cover page (see Sample Cover Page) (Word) completing the budget (see Budget Information and Sample Research Budget) (Excel), obtaining administrative signatures (see Proposal Check-Off Sheet  -- Sample only, not downloadable), which includes the Health and Safety Checklist, copying, and submitting either by mail or electronically.

SEE PROPOSAL PREPARATION AT A GLANCE AND A PROPOSAL FLOW CHART.

PLEASE NOTE:  A MINIMUM OF ONE WEEK LEAD TIME IS REQUIRED ON ALL STANDARD PROPOSALS.  This means ORA must receive your budget and pertinent information needed to fill out the cover page and any other forms one full week (i.e. 5 business days) prior to the proposal deadline.  UPDATE:  Please read the memos regarding proposal deadlines  and submission via Grants.gov Also read and become familiar with the specific CSM instructions for submitting a proposal through Grants.gov at CSM Grants.gov Submission.

A MINIMUM OF TWO WEEKS LEAD TIME IS REQUIRED ON ALL REQUESTS FOR SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS.  This means the V.P. for Research & Technology Transfer must receive the information needed to evaluate the request two full weeks (10 business days) prior to the proposal deadline. Please refer to the instructions in the Budget Exception Policy for details.

If your proposal involves the use of Human Subjects, you must contact Nigel Middleton, Executive V.P. for Academic Affairs for approval.  Dr. Middleton can be reached via email at nmiddlet@mines.edu .

Please inform Sharon Dehmlow at ext. 3411 in the Office of Research Administration if you intend to submit a proposal to an RFP that has specified PI and/or institution limitations.  Use the following website to view the Procedure for Internal Review on Solicitations that Limit the Number of Proposals.

Please note, only permanent, full-time faculty at CSM can be Principal Investigators on research projects.  Part-time, retired, visiting, etc., faculty may participate on research projects as Co-Principal Investigators. If an exception is needed for someone who is not permanent, full-time faculty, the approval must come from the appropriate department head and the V.P. for Research.
