Andrew M. Herring, Personal Sketch.

I was born in Middlesbrough , England on the 10th March 1964. My parents are Michael and Margaret (nee. Pearson) Herring. I have two brothers, Jon and Nic. I also have a famous, cousin, Richard Herring. I am also happily married to Sue (nee. Reid) Herring, a children's book author and freelance editor/writer/proof reader. We were married on 28th January 1995 at the Devil's Thumb Ranch Resort, Tabernash, Colorado. Our first child, Jasper Michael Herring was born in April of 1999.

In 1968 the familly moved to Stevenage, England, thirty miles north of London. I attended both Lodge Farm infants and Junior schools before going on to high school at The Nobel School. After a summer working for ICI I went to the University of Leeds in 1985 and read for both my BSc and PhD degrees in the School of Chemistry. At the same time the rest of my family moved back to Middlesbrough.

In October of 1988 I became a NATO/SERC postdoctoral research fellow at the California Institute of Technology, Caltech, in Chemistry. After two and a half years I moved to what became the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, NREL as a visiting professional in the Basic Sciences Division. In January of 1995 I became a postdoctoral research fellow at CSM in the Chemical Engineering Department, being promoted to Research Associate in January of 1996, Assistant Research Professor in April of 2000, and Associate Research Professor in March of 2004.

My other interests include Rock Climbing, Peak Bagging, Cross country skiing (past President of the Boulder Nordic Club), Cycling, and playing either of flutes, tin whistles, or recorders.
