Water Recovery from Lunar and Martian Regoliths
We are evaluating the energetics associated with extracting and condensing important volatiles such as water from lunar or martian regolith. Using simulants of lunar or martian soil we are characterizing the heat transfer properties of the soil as well as the kinetics of water extraction. The undergraduate researchers on this project include Devin Dyar and Dustin Rice. The project is led by Dr. Mike Duke through CSM's Center for Commercial Applications for Combustion in Space.
This project is supported by NASA through the Johnson Space Center as well as Lockheed Martin.
