KEY TO EXERCISE FOR EXPLORING 3D CONTAMINANT TRANSPORT, CONTINUOUS SOURCE with SORPTION and DECAY

The following parameters apply:
Y = 10 m
Z =  1 m
x = 15 m
y =  5 m
z = 3 m
t = 1 year = 3.17 x 107sec
v = (K * i)/ ne = 3.0 x 10-5m/s * 0.002 / 0.23 = 2.6 x 10-7m/s

Dx= (v * alpha) + D* = 2.6 x 10-7m/s * 10 m + 1 x 10-9m2/s = 2.6 x 10-6m2/s
Dy= (v * alpha * 0.2) + D* = 2.6 x 10-7m/s * 10 m * 0.2 + 1 x 10-9m2/s = 5.2 x 10-7m2/s
Dz= (v * alpha * 0.1) + D* = 2.6 x 10-7m/s * 10 m * 0.1 + 1 x 10-9m2/s = 2.6 x 10-7m2/s
in addition:
T 1/2 = 0.5 years
K d = 1x10-4 ml/mg
particle density = 2.65 g/cc

notice we have only downward spreading so in the next term we use Z rather than Z/2

As you can see it is very tedious to calculate these values by hand and it is easy to make an error. However, it is useful to do make the calculations a few times or to code the equation because you become very familiar with the character of the equation and the relative size of values that are important to the solution.
