MATLAB Seminars @ Mines (Thurs April 27 @ 10am - GC 215)

2017-04-27 10:00am

Two MATLAB Seminars, presented by Saket Kharsikar from MathWorks

  • Data Analysis & Visualization with MATLAB (10 - 11am)
  • What's New in MATLAB (11am - Noon)

Please join Saket Kharsikar for two complimentary MATLAB seminars. Mines faculty, staff, researchers and students are all welcome to attend.  During these technical seminars, we will provide an overview of MATLAB and introduce you to the powerful statistical analysis and visualization capabilities available in MATLAB.

BIO: Saket joined MathWorks in 2008 as an Application Engineer. He has a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, with a specialization in bioinformatics and computational biology, from the University of Akron. Some of the areas that he focusses on at MathWorks are MATLAB as a technical computing platform, parallel and distributed computing, machine learning and deployment of applications outside of MATLAB

Who: These seminars are open to the Mines community
Where: GC 215
When: April 27, 2017 10am - Noon
Registration: Register here. Walk-ins also welcome.

Part 1 - Data Analysis and Visualization using MATLAB (10:00 - 11:00am)

In this session, you will learn how MATLAB can be used to visualize and analyze data, perform numerical computations, and develop algorithms. Through live demonstrations and examples, you will see how MATLAB can help you become more effective in your coursework as well as in research. This session is targeted for students, faculties, and researchers who are new to MATLAB. However, experienced MATLAB users may also benefit from the session, as the engineer will be covering some tips and tricks from the newer releases of MATLAB.

Highlights include:

  • Accessing data from files, spreadsheets and other sources
  • Performing statistical analysis, curve and surface fitting routines
  • Developing algorithms and applications to automate your workflow
  • Generating reports in HTML and other file formats to share your work
  • Building graphical applications and deploying your work

Part 2 - What's New in MATLAB (11:00am - Noon)

Are you using MATLAB to its fullest potential? MATLAB has changed significantly over the last 3 years to address the growing needs of our users, but we've noticed that even experienced MATLAB users aren't taking advantage of our latest and greatest features.

This seminar will cover the newest MATLAB features and show you how to utilize these features to simplify your work, save time, and increase your productivity.

Highlights include:

  • MATLAB Foundation Updates
    • Faster execution engine
    • Graphics system
    • Live Editor
  • Data handling and language enhancements
    • Simpler data importing
    • Improved datatypes
    • Big data capabilities
  • App building
    • App Designer
    • Sharing apps and creating toolboxes
  • Hardware support
  • Other Toolbox enhancements
