Dani (Dana) Sledz
- Mechanical Engineering
- Colorado School of Mines
Golden, CO 80401 USA
Education
- BSME from University of Texas [UT]
- Student at Mines since Spring '10.
- Currently working on a Masters thesis- mechanical engineering specialty [expected graduation: 2012]
Research
- I work with Dr. Joe Beach (Physics) and Dr. Greg Bogin (Engineering) on CdTe Thin Film Solar Cells, specifically the TCO layer.
- Experimentally I grow the top layers of the CdTe thin film cell using differing sputtering targets and techniques with the final goal of making the Cd2SnO4 doped with CdS economically viable on a commercial scale. Characterization is done with Spectophotometry, surface profilometer, general multi-meter electrical tests, hall effect, XRD, and also working with the materials department: nanoindention.
Modeling of the process is done using
ANSYS - fuel cell/battery package to show transport.
Background
- I have worked on renewable energy projects involving NH3 synthesis for ammonia vehicle fuel, hydrogen fuel costs based on storage and compression, geothermal technologies, IGFC coal and biomass gasification system design, pyrolysis for green diesel, solar cell and system design, PRO (pressure reduced osmosis) to utilize low grade heat sources, and involved in a remote wind turbine design/build for the CSM wind tubine club.
- I began in the oil industry, helping to design
deepwater offshore platforms for BP in the GoM
[Thunderhorse, Atlantis]. Green energy is the future
however, so I came to Mines to refine my renewable
energy portfolio.
- Thru the Bechtel and GK12 fellowships, I teach K and 2nd grade (previously taught from 5th - undergraduate level) at Tennyson Knolls Elementary and the STEM Magnet school.
