Dr. Erdal Ozkan PhD Petroleum Engineering

Curriculum Vitae

Erdal Ozkan is a professor of Petroleum Engineering and the co-director of the Marathon Center of Excellence for Reservoir Studies (MCERS) at the Colorado School of Mines. He has BS and MS degrees from Istanbul Technical University and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Tulsa, all in Petroleum Engineering. He has twenty-five years of teaching and research experience. He joined the PE Department at Colorado School of Mines in 1998. Dr. Ozkan is a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the recipient of the SPE Formation Evaluation Award (2007). In the 2011-2012 season, he served as an SPE Distinguished Lecturer of on shale-gas reservoirs. He is also a member of the ASME and SIAM.

Dr. Ozkan's main research interests are horizontal and multilateral well technology, pressure-transient analysis, modeling fluid flow in porous media, and unconventional reservoirs. He has presented and published over 100 papers, co-authored a book, and contributed to several others. Dr. Ozkan is also actively involved in the organization of technical conferences; some examples include the Steering Committee of the SPE Forum on Reservoir Engineering Aspects of Multilateral and Advanced Wells (1999), Chair of the Organizing Committee for the SPE Advanced Technology Workshop on Unconventional Gas (2006), Steering Committee of the SPE Advanced Technology Workshop on Advances in Performance Diagnostics for Fractured and Horizontal Wells (2007), and Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee of the SPE Technical Conference on Shale Gas Production (2008 and 2010).

Dr. Ozkan serves in the editorial boards of several technical journals, such as SPE Reservoir Engineering and Evaluation, SPE Journal, Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, and Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology. He has served as the Executive Editor of the SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering, Chief Editor of Elsevier Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Associate Technical Editor of ASME Journal of Energy Resources Technology, and Associate Technical Editor of Elsevier Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering. He also serves as a referee for several US and international research foundations. He is a member of the SPE Reservoir Description and Dynamics Advisory Committee and he was a Technical Director of the SPE Research and Development Technical Section.
