Research
- My graduate work has focused on the characterization of thin film photovoltaic (PV) devices. My masters thesis involved in-situ spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) analysis to determine the phase transitions of the intrinsic layers of a p-i-n triple junction solar cell. I am currently working on the development of optical models for use in fitting reverse SE data collected from completed CdTe solar cells. My PhD dissertation will focus on understanding how the window layers of a CdTe solar cell are affected by the deposition and treatment of the CdTe layer and metallic back contact.
Interests
- When I started graduate school I chose to work on PV because I believe the development of clean sustainable energy is something that is both exciting and worthwhile. As a result I am interested on all forms of clean energy including passive solar, biomass, wind, and geothermal.
- My training in SE has introduced me to the power of using light as a measurement tool. As a result I have developed an interest in photonics. I am interested in using light as a means for imaging, data transfer, sensing, and precision metrology.
