Education & Public Outreach

The next generation workforce will need to be skilled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that engineering employment opportunities alone will grow by 11% over the next decade. Therefore it is imperative that we inspire the next generation to consider STEM disciplines. I am very passionate about STEM education at both the K-12 and the Collegiate levels and I am honored to be a participant in two key programs that allow me to inspire students in both categories to become the next generation STEM workforce.

NASA Student Ambassadors

I am currently a member of the NASA Student Ambassadors Virtual Community. This is an online network of outstanding interns from across all of NASA's higher education projects. Interns are chosen annually as a cohort and I am a member of cohort II. This virtual community is designed to foster greater interaction and mentorship among the all of the interns and increase retention throughout the NASA educational pipeline into the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce.

Bechtel K-5 Education Excellence Initiative

I also have the privilege of being a fellow in the Bechtel K-45 Educational Initiative here at the Colorado School of Mines. The Bechtel program provides an opportunity for teachers and students in the Adams 50 and Aurora Public School districts to be exposed and immersed in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education at both the elementary and high school levels. Fellows provide assistance to educators in the classroom by developing and implementing creative, hands-on STEM lessons and activities. This is my second year in the program and I am excited at the opportunity to work with my mentor teachers, Katherine Zook and Elizabeth Adsit, to support K-5 students in science & math

Below are a few of the lesson plans that I have created and taught:
