Research

  • Currently, I am working on the project of pyrolysis reactions of butene isomers at low temperatures. The proposed study has three major objectives: (1) Characterize the pyrolysis chemistry of the three butene isomers (1-butene, 2-butene and isobutene) in a heated tubular flow reactor at controlled conditions (temperature, pressure, residence time) using GC/MS/FID detection to quantify the effluent gas mixture. (2) Compare predictions using the existing CSM kinetic model to this new database to confirm known and to identify additional deficiencies in the current model. (3) Update the portions of the CSM kinetic model that need improvement by employing high-level electronic structure calculations, transition state theory, and the theory to predict the impact of pressure on the rate constants.
