Hi, my name is Mickey Wilson and I am a fellow of the Bechtel K-5 Education Excellence Initiative. Additionally, I am studying at the Colorado School of Mines for my Master's degree in materials physics (the technical name for the degree is Microelectronic Materials but I find that to be a bit of a mouthful). I am also the resident tutor of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at CSM.
Teaching and learning are important components of my life and have been so for a while. I’ve always taken my own studies very seriously and I have been involved in some sort of tutoring or mentoring program since I was in high school, where I was a peer mentor and a tutor. During my undergraduate studies, I was part of the CSM Student Development and Academic Services Tutoring Team. Now, as a Bechtel fellow, I work as an assistant teacher in three kindergarten classrooms and one 2nd grade classroom; I focus on teaching math and science but I definitely love to work in all areas of the classroom. I teach at two different elementary schools in the Adams50 district, Fairview and Skyline. By the end of this year, I hope to be an extremely well rounded practitioner of pedagogy!
As a Bechtel fellow, my primary responsibility is to
the children I work with.
Thus, my main goal is to have a positive effect
on their interest in math and science through one-on-one
teaching and engaging class lessons.
Outside of the classroom, I am also passionate about
skiing, kayaking and slacklining.
