About Me

Marcelo Godoy Simões received a B.E. degree from University of São Paulo, Brazil, an M.S. degree from University of São Paulo, Brazil, and a Ph.D. degree from The University of Tennessee, USA in 1985, 1990 and 1995 respectively. He received his D. Sc. degree (Livre-Docncia) from the University of São Paulo in 1998. He has been an IEEE Senior Member since 1998.

He was a faculty member at University of São Paulo, Brazil, from 1989 to 2000 where he was involved in organizing undergraduate courses in the Department of Mechatronics, teaching graduate courses in Power Electronics and Drives and also conducting research in applications of Intelligent Systems. Dr. Simões joined Colorado School of Mines in Fall 2000. He is working to establish research and education activities at CSM. His interests are in the development of intelligent applications, neural network, fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms for industrial systems and high power electronics applications for distributed energy systems.

Teaching Philosophy

While educational institutions structuralize their program to educate students to speak well, to convince people and to be a leader, my teaching philosophy is to develop the innate capacities of my students to know what to speak about, what to convince people of, and where to lead them.
