Me
I was born in Houston in 1988. My parents are geologists and work for
oil companies, so I've lived in the south most of my life. I moved to
Lafayette, Louisiana when I was 4, and pretty much grew up there. My
parents moved back to Houston in summer 2001, and I spent my junior and
senior years of high school in Dallas. Then I came to Denver and have
spent the last 5 years here, at Mines. I have a Bachelor's degree in
physics, and I'm currently working on a master's in applied math.
Thanks to the warm climate I grew up in, I abhor snow and love warm
thunderstorms and want to live on a tropical island someday.
For fun, I like playing soccer and racquetball, playing computer and
board games, climbing trees, watching movies, and hanging out. I listen
to music almost all the time and love many different kinds, but I don't
play any instruments.
Research
I am researching underwater acoustics under
Dr. Jon Collis. I am
working with the elastic equations of motion to model sound propagation
in mediums with low shear speed. My Master's thesis topic will be on
looking at this problem as a singular perturbation, using asymptotic
perturbation methods to (hopefully) deduce an analytic solution, and
setting up the problem's boundary and interface conditions. I am
attempting to reformulate the equations of motion to be more suitable
to modeling propagation through
a low shear speed layer.
GK-12 Program
I currently work for Dr.
Barbara Moskal as a Graduate Student Fellow. I help teach 7th and 8th
grade advanced math classes at
Aurora
East
Middle School with
Sara Weiss.
Our program's goal is to interest kids in math, science, and
engineering in the hope
that one day they too will want to pursue a career in scientific
fields!
