DEVELOPMENT OF FINITE ELEMENT SOFTWARE USING CAS The Fortran 95 subroutines in this section were all developed with the help of Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) such as Maple, Reduce, Derive, etc. The Exact routines develop the element matrices using exact analytical integration. The Semi-analytical routines mimic the operations that would be used by numerical integration but using explicit algebraic expressions. These routines should lead to the same results that would have been obtained using conventional numerical integration. These routines can replace the numerical integration loops used in conventional FE software and in most cases will lead to substantial CPU savings. These software developments are part of a larger NSF project # INT-0106665 from the Americas Program to generate a library of analytical and semi-analytical routines for FE analysis. The project has been under the supervision of D.V. Griffiths (Colorado School of Mines) and M. Cerrolaza (Universidad Central de Venezuela).
