BACKGROUND

William Hoff received the B.S. degree in physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology, the M.S. degree in physics from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and also the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Illinois. After his Ph.D., he was a staff engineer at Martin Marietta, where he led research projects in robotics and target recognition. He joined the Colorado School of Mines in 1994. He has developed and taught courses in digital electronics, microprocessors, image processing, computer vision, stochastic processes, and mobile application development.  He has been a visiting scientist at Lockheed Martin and at the Rocky Mountain Musculoskeletal Research Lab.  His research interests include computer vision and pattern recognition, with applications in augmented reality, robotics, video aided navigation, and activity recognition.
