What should I expect when I submit a CARE report?
Upon receipt of a CARE report, the CARE Team will review the information provided and then strategize the best way to follow-up. A CARE Team member may contact an individual who submitted a report to obtain additional information or clarification. Depending on the nature of the situation, that individual may not receive specific information regarding how the CARE Team plans to respond.
Is the name of the individual submitting a CARE report kept confidential?
The CARE Team will take reasonable steps to maintain privacy of those that submit a report, if requested. Please understand that some circumstances do not allow privacy to be maintained and on occasion, the nature and context of the report may make it easy for the individual to speculate the reporting source.
What if I am unsure whether or not to submit a CARE report?
It is always best to err on the side of submitting a report. However, if you are unsure of whether your situation arises to the level of submitting a CARE report, please feel free to contact any of the CARE Team members to discuss the situation.
What are some examples of the actions that the CARE Team may take in response to a CARE report?

After reviewing a CARE report and discussing the matter, the CARE Team may:

  • Determine that there is no need for further action but will continue to monitor the situation.
  • Contact the individual that submitted the report and provide suggestions and ways to appropriately respond to the concerning behavior.
  • Contact the individual of concern directly to provide support.
  • In situations that require immediate action, such as situations where an individual is in immediate threat of harming self or others, the CARE Team may coordinate with CSM Public Safety or local law enforcement to assist in the response.
What is CARE at Mines?

CARE stands for Crisis Assessment, Response, and Education. The CARE Team is responsible for the following:

  • Helping to create a campus culture that supports and cares and looks out for one another
  • Assisting the campus community by developing and implementing education and outreach related to by-stander intervention, crisis management, and campus resource promotion
  • Monitoring and assessing activity in the campus community to identify signs or potential threat as early as possible
  • Developing appropriate response plans to situations of distress within the campus community
  • Reviewing reports of concern about members of the Mines community
  • Serving as consultants for to members of the Mines community to support them in assessing concerning behavior and building actions plans to help others
  • Assisting with the development of policies and procedures for the institution related to concerning behavior that is taking place within the members of the campus community.
